Education
As a child, I hated school. However, I grew up and realized how significant it really was. Over the years, the school systems have tuned millions of students into robots. Children have been taught only one way; therefore, many students feel useless and worthless because they can not understand the way that they are being taught . Schools have killed creativity and individuality. Phones have changed, cars have changed, even clothes have changed; however, schools haven't changed and yet the school system yet claims they prepare kids for the future. Students are placed in straight rows, told to sit still, raise their hands to speak, given all of twenty minutes to get a bite to eat, and most of all they are told what to think. Not only that, students are forced to compete for an “A” making them think school is about more than learning, but about a grade. Instead of acknowledging the fact that no two students are the same, the system attempts to make them all fit in the same frame.
I believe we should change the way our students are taught. Instead of being taught how they want, the students should be taught based on what they need. Many students are visual learners, some are auditory learners, others are kinesthetic learners, and lastly there are read-write learners. Therefore, my proposal is that we have to make schools based on their learning needs. Also, no one should be judged by their ability to fill in a bubble sheet . The standardized test given at the end of the year is not a good way to measure the student's ability. Students who keep good grades all year and study hard are penalized by this test which is not fair. There should be no test at the end of the year, but states a can receive funding from the federal government from schools.
Teachers have the most important job on the planet, yet they are underpaid. Teachers deserve to be paid just as much as doctors because a doctor can do heart surgery and save the life of kid, but a great teacher can reach the heart of that kid and allow them to truly live. Teachers are heroes who are often blamed, but they work in a system without many options. Therefore, they deserve better pay because they teach what they are told and cannot have a say. They are told by people who have probably never taught a day in their life and think that a standardized test can determine success. There should be no more common core, but we should reach the core of every child and go straight to their heart. Math is important, but not to every student, math is just as important to art and dance. We should give every talent an equal chance, this should be our main task making a change and a difference together that will last. We should work on collaboration and not competition, our teachers should get a decent pay, and their should be shorter school days. Although we are a small part of our population, we are 100% of our future.
